HANDICAP HIGH POINT ADMINISTRATION

High Point Trophy Competition
Bonus Points
Unless the Class has made an exception, Bonus Points for the length of the course(s) in an Event shall be available as follows:
| 4.0 | to | 19.9 miles | = | 0 points |
| 20.0 | to | 49.9 miles | = | 5 points |
| 50.0 | to | 99.9 miles | = | 10 points |
| 100.0 | to | 149.9 miles | = | 12 points |
| 150.0 | to | 199.9 miles | = | 14 points |
| 200.0 | and | over miles | = | 16 points |
Participation and Qualification
Classes meeting the following minimum levels of participation and qualification will earn CBYRA High Point awards:
| Number of Qualifiers | Number of Awards | |
| 3 | = | One |
| 5 | = | Two |
| 7 | = | Three |
| 12 | = | Four |
| 17 | = | Five |
High Point Scoring Formula
The PHRF High Point Recorder will compute the scores with the following formula:
| High Point Score = | Total of “Points Earned” for Year ________________________________________ | ||
| Total of maximum Points possible had the Boat/Owner won every event in which recorded | + | 30 (participation points) |
Where “Points Earned” are one (1) point for starting, one (1) point for finishing and one (1) point for every boat beaten. A simple example: if a boat was first in a race against ten other boats, the “Points Earned” for that race would equal eleven (11) (11 = 1 point for starting + 1 point for finishing + 9 points for beating all other boats). The thirty (30) points are added to the denominator to ensure sufficient participation.
Bonus Points
Bonus Points for the length (in nautical miles) of the course(s) in an event shall be available as follows (some lengths are different from standard Handicap Division lengths):
| 4.0 | to | 19.9 miles | = | 0 points |
| 20.0 | to | 43.9 miles | = | 5 points |
| 44.0 | to | 99.9 miles | = | 10 points |
| 100.0 | to | 149.9 miles | = | 12 points |
| 150.0 | to | 199.9 miles | = | 14 points |
| 200.0 | and | over miles | = | 16 points |
Total bonus points are limited to thirty (30). If any Skipper/Boat accumulates more than thirty (30) bonus points, the amount above 30 would be subtracted from both the numerator and denominator of the High Point scoring formula.
Additional Rules
A. An event does not contribute to the record for High Point awards if the first yacht to finish averages less than 2.0 knots over the course.
B. An event does not contribute to the record for High Point awards if the length of the race course is less than four (4) nautical miles. An event consisting of multiple races with a total distance greater than four (4) nautical miles satisfies this requirement.
C. An event does not contribute to the competitors’ record for High Point awards if there are less than three (3) boats in their class entered and competing in the race. If there are fewer than three competitors in a class, the organizing club may group several classes into a single start and satisfy this requirement. In this case each competitor will receive the race score as though all other competitors were in their class.
Overall Handicap Division Champion – The Labrot Trophy
The following are the criteria for calculating the Labrot Trophy:
A. Selection as High Point Winner for a Class and/or a Division of a Class within the Handicap Division, either Bay wide or in a Region.
B. Scoring in at least eight (8) CBYRA Sanctioned Events in the Class (or sub-class) of which at least five (5) Sanctioned Events must be in the Region for which the winner is selected High Point Champion.
C. Achievement of the highest efficiency percentage of boats defeated versus boats competed against, with no regard to starting and finishing points, bonus points, and no throw-outs.
